ABOUT ME
Tristan Raines(He/Him) is a freelance costume designer, artist, and educator based out of the East Coast(NYC/Boston). Tristan has designed Off Broadway and regionally for 15 years. Select venues and companies include New World Stages, The Old Globe, Barrow Street Theater, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, La Jolla Playhouse, CTG- LA, The Muny, Capital Rep, Signature Theater- DC, The Menier Chocolate Factory, New Rep Boston, Virginia Opera, and The Maltz Jupiter Theater. ​

Tristan is also the Costume Director for Happy Hour Entertainment and Kaleidoscope Immersive and has designed shows with them on Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Beyond, and Virgin Voyages. Tristan's work could also be seen in the Time Square immersive sensation called "SPEAKEASY". Tristan has also created work for events for Samsung and Canon Electronics. His work has been seen in several Cirque Musica's holiday national tours.

Tristan is the Assistant Professor in Costume Design at Emerson College in Boston, and splits his time between Boston and New York City for work. He also volunteers with the Non-For-Profit Off/The Lane mentoring young designers and creating/supporting curriculum to progress future diverse generations into the industry. Tristan's educational research resides in the creation of an equal and progressive education for students entering into the industry. They are devoted to creating a sense of community in which students and young artists can learn and forge their path in our industry.

Tristan is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. He holds a BS in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in Costume Design from Northwest Missouri State University. He then received his MFA in Costume Design from Boston University. Tristan also studied musical theater and Shakespeare in London, England at Imperial College. Tristan has also received certification in Diversity/Equality, and Inclusion Leadership from The University of Michigan as well as certification in Inclusive Design of Online Curriculum from University of Colorado Boulder.
